This is a brief update on the trip to dine with Dominican President, Dr. Leonel Fernandez and meetings with leaders of the Congress Dec. 20-21, 2006
 
First our Special Thanks to Floridian Gulf Coast Homes, Inc., - their leaders Gary Oben and Dean Rossey - for hiring the private jet that flew the small delegation to the Dominican Republic.  GRACIAS, SEŅOR!
 
Our Thanks to Jose Zaiter - President of the Presidential Board for Florida, Congressman Demostenes Martinez, and Armando Sori for their wonderful help
  • We left at 11:00 a.m. from Page Field Airport and landed in Santo Domingo at 2:30 p.m. local time (1:30 p.m. our time)
  • Immediatel vehiles from the Congress met us at the airport - went to have lunch at a restaurat by the Caribbean Sea
  • went to meet with the Speaker of the House, the Honorable Julio Cesar Valentin, who accepted an invitation to speak at the Chamber International Business Gala Dinner (January 26, 2007 at the Hyatt)
  • We meet another delegation there from the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce who also went to meet with the Speaker of the House and dine with the President - They praised our Chamber for the job we are doing in promoting international commerce.
  • We met DR Presidential Board Members from Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and other States in the USA. They alll showed an interest in doing business in Southwest Florida.. We were one of two delegations traveling on private jet.. the other one was from Miami
  • The President, Dr. Fernandez, showed an interest in helping Floridian Gulf Coast Homes, Inc.'s efforts to build in the Dominican Republic as well as support our Chamber at the DR-CAFTA Conference we have in the DR on March 29-31, 2007 and other events/activities that may have to do with the Dominican Republic..
As Dean Rossey said on the plane on the way back home, "this is a great way to end the year," showing his appreciation for all the support our Chamber is providing his company.  -   We are going to be spoiled after traveling on this private jet... we arrived at 3:20 a.m. - Everyone in Fort Myers was sleeping - we had to turn off the lights!!!
